Born in 1963 in Kiel, Germany, Ellis graduated with Honours from the College of Fine Arts and Art Therapy in 1992. She has lived and worked in Australia since 1995.
Prominent art critic Jim Newton (Artist International) described Ellis’ work as at once ‘unflinching and completely natural.’ ‘The sheer power of execution makes her work so totally absorbing,’ he said.
This exhibition highlights how Ellis' artistic endeavours are informed by her fascination with the ethereal and the natural world. Her vivid palette choice makes each canvas vital, and gives a sense of the spiritual that is integral to her visual vocabulary.
Ellis’ paintings are collected internationally, and have been receiving awards since 1998. Her recent credits include a solo exhibition at Gateone, Germany in 2008; a solo exhibition at Enzo’s, Washington in 2009; and Abstract Moves, her 2009 retrospective at Lismore Regional Gallery, New South Wales.
